Installation Guide

The TaxFactory 8.0 API Add-On feature allows you to continue to use the TaxFactory 8.0 API, even though product support has been discontinued. It will allow you to upgrade to TaxFactory 10.0 without changing your BSI-related settings or updating your API code. The TaxFactory 8.0 API Add-On can be used in either a standard, default conversion layout, or it can be customized.

Installation

The standard TaxFactory installation must be performed in its entirety before installing the TaxFactory 8.0 API Add-On. The API Add-On allows the existing TaxFactory 8.0 interface to remain the same, converting all calls to TaxFactory 8.0, and running against a complete TaxFactory 8.0 system and database. The API Add-On is included in the standard TaxFactory 10.0 server package, so there is nothing additional to download.

Important Notes:

The connection will be coming from the existing TaxFactory database account, so the database payroll user account needs to have permission to read/write the new TaxFactory 10.0 schema.
Rights and datasets must be migrated to the new TaxFactory 10.0 database.

Standard TaxFactory 8.0 API Add-On

Windows Platforms

Link your program to TF80.lib or tf8api.lib from the TaxFactory 8.0 package. If your existing interface uses tf8api.dll or tf8api.lib with the TaxFactory 8.0 product, use the same libraries from the appropriate tfbridge\server subdirectory. If your existing interface uses TF80net.dll with the TaxFactory 8.0 product, use the same library from the appropriate tfbridge\server subdirectory.

UNIX Platforms

Link your program, or create your shared library, using tf80lib*.a from the TaxFactory 8.0 downloaded package.

z/OS Platforms

Link your program to the provided library from the TaxFactory 8.0 package. Use the provided JCLs to bind database objects, load the database, etc.

iSeries Platforms

Bind your executable to the provided TF400SRV service program from the TaxFactory 8.0 package.

TaxFactory 8.0 API Add-On Modification

If you want to customize or modify the TaxFactory 8.0 API Add-On behavior, you can do so by building the conversion object from the source files provided and updating the TaxFactory 8.0 library with the modified conversion object. The following are the source files needed to accomplish this:

TaxFactory 8.0 API Add-On Enablement License

The TaxFactory 8.0 license key created on the BSI web site is created using specific information about the server. However, it does not include an option for TaxFactory 8.0 API Add-On enablement. If you do not have a TaxFactory 8.0 license key that will enable the TaxFactory 8.0 API Add-On feature, contact BSI Support and fill out the “TaxFactory 8.0 API Add-On Machine Key Questionnaire".

If a user wishes to discontinue using the TaxFactory 8.0 API Add-On feature and convert to TaxFactory 8.0 directly, the TaxFactory 8.0 license key that enabled the TaxFactory 8.0 API Add-On feature, is no longer needed.

To accomplish the conversion to TaxFactory 8.0 directly, please follow these steps:

1. Do not attempt any sort of uninstall of the bridge.

2. Perform the standard TF 8.0 installation without using the bridge installation procedure. See: Server Download and Installation

3. A regular TF 8.0 license should be downloaded from the web site.
